About Us

The investment entitled Establishment of the Regional Science-Technology Centre in the Świetokrzyskie Province financed from European Union funds as part of the European Regional Development Fund from the Operational Program for the Development of Eastern Poland for the years 2007-2013, priority axis I Modern Economy, Action I.3 Support for Innovation, assumes the establishment of the Świętokrzyskie Biobank along with a complex of  research-implementation laboratories. Total investment cost PLN 23,571,607.27 including eligible costs PLN 23,569,126.36 as well as non-eligible costs PLN 2,480.91. Financial support from the European Union PLN 20,033,757.00, State Budget PLN 1,178,456.00, own contribution PLN 2,359,394.27.

The biobank's objective is to collect biological material (most often DNA, serum, plasma) for scientific purposes. A fully automated RCNT Biobank and laboratories cooperating with it will make it possible to develop the basis to protect the health of inhabitants of the Świętokrzyskie Province in a modern manner. Test results, being the effect of the Biobank's functioning, will be focused on increasing the pro-health awareness pf the region’s inhabitants. As a result, they will result in an effective reduction in incidence of disease by indicating and eliminating hazards responsible for modern-age diseases.

The complex of research-implementation laboratories includes:

  • The Świętokrzyskie Biobank along with the Public Bank for Stem Cells,
  • The Research Laboratory for Medical Genetics,
  • The Biomarker Laboratory with an autoimmune laboratory,
  • The Laboratory for New Biotechnologies,
  • The Studio for Bioinformatics

The Public Bank for Stem Cells

The purpose of establishing the Public Bank for Stem Cells is to provide the inhabitants of the Świętokrzyskie Province with the possibility to collect and store stem cells from cord blood. Cord blood is the source of priceless cells which may save the lives of numerous people. It is collected during a simple, non-invasive short procedure not causing any hazard either to the newborn or its mother.

The establishment of a public bank for stem cells in the Świetokrzyskie Province will increase the competitiveness of regional economy regarding the increase in availability of modern therapeutic solutions through the transfer of technologies and the creation of optimum conditions for the development of research-scientific works and highly-qualified personnel.
